Lactation Workshop: Tongue Tie
Lactation Workshop: Tongue Tie
There is a lack of standardization of tongue tie/ankyloglossia assessment and treatment. Infants who have difficulty breast/chestfeeding due to tongue tie but who can bottle feed well are not given proper assessment or treatment, additionally the concerns of a breast/chestfeeding parent who is experiencing pain though their child is "gaining well" are disregarded.
The goals of this workshop are for providers to feel confident in identifying how oral anatomy can affect breast/chestfeeding, provide appropriate feeding support and referrals when needed, and enhance skills in counseling families as well as developing evidence-based care plans.
This community lactation workshop was created by Kris D Swanson BSN, RN-C, IBCLC as part of Birthmark Doulas Community Lactation Workshop series in 2021.
